Worth hearing

Glenn Mitchell has written and is presentaing a radio programme about Harry Worth, who appeared with the Boys during their UK tours. The programme is called HARRY WORTH: THE MAN IN THE WINDOW and will be transmitted on BBC Radio 4 Tues 15 Dec 2009 11:30am. I'm sure it will be well worth catching.

Ulverston statue Christmas cards

We remind readers that proceeds from sales of a hand-painted Christmas card (above) depicting Ulverston's Laurel and Hardy statue will be donated to the Cumbria Flood Recovery Fund. Artist Chris Benefield has created the card, which is titled Stan and Ollie's First Christmas in Ulverston. It can be purchased for £1.20, or five for £5, from the Tinners' Rabbit in Market Street, Ulverston, where Mr Benefield works. They are on sale now. Larger prints are also available.

Our own Christmas cards

Don't forget our own Christmas cards, which are still available and include a donation to Cancer Research UK. Click here.

The Fiddle and The Bow

Andrew Shepherd reports that the next performance of his play The Fiddle and The Bow will be on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th February at 7.30pm at the Academy Theatre, Birdwell, near Barnsley. Ticket line: 01226 744442. Tickets will be priced £8 and £6 concessions.

It is noted that the play is being lengthened for these performances. Interesting!

Slapstick 2010

Paul Allen and I are going to the Bristol Slapstick event (21st till 24th January). There's a rather good line-up of films and special guests including Dave Wyatt (I have to put him at the top of my list), Barry Cryer, Michael Palin, Graeme Garden, Tim Brooke-Taylor, David Robinson, Sanjec Bhaskar, Kevin Brownlow and Tony Staveacre (and possibly other guests). It sounds rather good.

 In the snow

Jo Mitchell-Waite spotted the advert above from Woolworths.co.uk, in which snowmen are called Stan and Ollie.
