Al fresco fraternity!

Oh what a night, late September back in. . . 2011. Can there be a better way for a tent to enjoy the Boys' films than in the open air, drinking real ales in the beer garden on a balmy evening? Our Sailors Beware Tent's Grand Sheik Graeme Green spotted the potential of the beer garden at our venue some months ago. The gable end of the pub is whitewashed and presented a great projection screen.

For our September meeting the snap hot weather made the conditions perfect to swing his plan into action. Projector set up with external audio system, garden tables and chairs were arranged to suit. When our members arrived they were taken aback to be shown out the back door! But how their faces changed, and what an excellent evening was had by all. The picture was small cinema size and passengers on trains that pass by just behind the pub must have done a "Fin" double-take to see Stan's face beaming at them! Nothing but praise from our tent members and other punters that came to see what was going on. Definitely a night to be repeated.

Moving to South Africa

Dave, Laura and James Fullbrook move to South Africa on Thursday 20th October. Dave says, "We start house-hunting after we land."

They can still be contacted at dvfull40@gmail.com.

Stan's Childhood film

I can confirm that all the filming will be completed by the end of November, leaving December for post-production. We have a local band writing and performing the film's soundtrack. The film should be available for public viewing in January 2012.

We now have a Stan's Childhood fan page on Facebook.

On the radio

I was listening to an interview on Radio 2's Steve Wright in the Afternoon (03.10.11.). Frank Skinner was basically saying most of the old classic comedy acts had really dated and reruns of old Morecambe and Wise, Carry On shows / films etc just were not funny anymore. He went on to name an exception to the rule. . . you've guessed it. . . Stan and Ollie. According to Frank they just haven't dated like so many others have and are still as funny as ever. You should be able to catch the interview on the internet on iplayer or something.

A thought

Mike Amos, a long-time reporter with the local Northern Echo, is retiring this week and in today's paper (6th October) he reminisces.

In one bit he says 30 years ago he was sent on a course and joined up with the sub-editor of a Basildon paper. As was [not quite!] said of Laurel and Hardy, "We were two minds with a single thought - how soon could we escape to the pub for a pint?"

Be Big wedding

The Be Big Tent send their congratulations to John Heavyside and Helen Crossland who got married on 1st October.

Ollie: Didn't I just tell you I was going to be married?

Stan: Who to?

Ollie: Why a woman of course. Did you ever hear of anybody marrying a man?

Stan: Sure.

Ollie: Who ?

Stan: My sister.

Just gone onto the British Film Institute website, clicked onto "National Archive", scrolled down and the section BFI on YouTube is illustrated by a photo of the Boys.

Shown at the flicks

I'm sure you've had this before, but I'm listening to the CD The Very Best of Wayne Fontana & the Mindbenders, which features the song Pamela, Pamela, a solo hit for Wayne. The chorus includes the lyric, "When Laurel and Hardy were shown at the flicks. With sticky red lollies on splintery sticks."
