The Perry Winkle

It comes as no surprise that the latest issue of The Perry Winkle has an enormous range of items of interest for Sons everywhere. There is everything from true rarities from the collection of Harry Hoppe to an account of the convention in Bradford a few weeks ago.

Don't miss out on the best Sons publication. It appears quarterly. Contact: Roger Robinson at roger.robinson5@btinternet.com.

On the radio

George Cullen and Melvin McFadden were on Radio Cumbria on Stan Laurel's birthday (16th June), talking about their Them Thar Hills Tent of Carlisle and even singing the Sons song. They were being interviewed by Caroline Robertson. You can catch the interview on...

Bonnie Scotland Tent

The Bonnie Scotland Tent is having a "working lunch' on 24th June, when they will make plans for their involvement in the Sma' Shot Day (1st July) in Paisley, a trip on the Waverley paddle steamer and coming conventions.

The tent's next regular meeting is fixed for 28th June at the Tartan Rose pub in Paisley.

Did you see?

Did you catch The One Show on Stan Laurel's birthday (BBC1, 09.06.17.)? Steve Coogan was interviewed about the newly made movie on Stan and Ollie and, when asked when it will appear in cinemas, he replied with a twinkle in his eye, "Early next year."

The Battle of the Century

Just in case if you hadn't seen this, here is a clip of the original footage of Reel Two of "The Battle of the Century". A few shots are familiar, but you get to see them in their original context with the previously unseen shots.

Sixt advert

Michael Schmitz saw a surprising video advert at Düsseldorf Airport luggage collection, which helped to fill his waiting time! It is an advert for Sixt car rentals, and features Stan and Ollie!

On the horizon

Coming soon is a new book by Roger Robinson and Dave Wyatt.

We can hardly wait for what promises to be a unique addition to our literary collections.

Westerns

I get monthly email newsletters from Renown Pictures who come up with loads of vintage films, mainly British B titles, which they release on DVD.

Amongst this month's offers is a 3 DVD box set of 11+ hours of B Westerns, one of which was a surprise when I read... "Stan Laurel was the executive producer of the next film, KNIGHT OF THE PLAINS (1938)." It stars Fred Scott in a tale that sees an outlaw proposing to take away land from homesteaders.

I think you'd have to be a Western fanatic to shell out £15 for it as, while there are 11 films, of the 14 'star' names mentioned I only know 3 of them.

Come to Bedonia in Italy

After the great success of the show "Two Peas in a Pod" on June 8 in Fidenza, to remember Oliver Hardy's 60th birthday, Tony / Fradiavolo and Magician Tiziano have organised a new super event dedicated to our heroes in Bedonia (Parma) for the next Friday, June 23!

Bedonia is a beautiful medieval village of about 3000 inhabitants, where you eat very well. It is located on the Apennine in the province of Parma.

Some snippets on Our Relations

The working title of Our Relations was The Money Box.

It had a budget of $250,000, which was higher than any previous budget. Its net profit to the Roach studio was double that.

It took 48 days to film, longer than planned (32 days).

It was known as "A Stan Laurel Production"
