Alan, Chris and

Coffey
morning
Graeme, Stuart and Alan
from the Sailors Beware Tent of Hyde ventured into
Manchester on Friday 20th May to attend the lecture
Laurel and Hardy - The Men Behind the
Movies, given by Chris Coffey as part of the
Mind, Body and Spirit Week at Manchester
Metropolitan University.
A dose of Stan and Babe
certainly raises the spirits so this was an apt
subject for the lecture.
Unlike the Coffee
refreshments, Chris's knowledge was hot! He talked
for an hour, taking in the whole life and times of
the Boys. No matter how much you think you know
about the Boys there is always something more you
can learn and Chris certainly has lots of facts
stored in his encyclopaedic memory bank! After the
rest of the audience had departed we stayed behind
to exchange Laurel and Hardy tales and thank Chris
for a very enjoyable "coffey" morning.

Green
Hardy
hat
I am the owner of a hat
that belonged to Oliver Hardy which I now wish to
sell. Rather than go down the auction route I
thought it would be a nice idea to first offer
it to genuine Oliver Hardy fans.
The hat is a film and
stage black bowler hat from around 1930s.
Oli' Hardy is written on the paper liner under the
leather sweat band. It does have some stage wear
and tear and some cracks and scuffing. Comes with
coa from previous owners.
If you may be of interest
then please don't hesitate to contact me. I have
pictures I can send also.

Smart
mail
An entry on
Facebook says that in September 1932 the Hal
Roach / MGM publicity department announced that an
envelope which was mailed to Stan Laurel and Oliver
Hardy reached the comic pair safely in Hollywood.
It travelled all the way from Montreal with no
address other than a caricature of the comedians.
Good job the mail man knew those famous
faces!
