Memorabilia auctioned

A 1918 Ford Model T car used in Laurel and Hardy films, acquired by Debbie Reynolds at a 1970 MGM sale, sold on 18th June for $35,000 plus auction fees. The film star was selling a vast collection of movie memorabilia. Sold for $16,000 plus fees were items of clothing worn by Stan and Ollie. The Hardy jacket and pants were used in Jitterbugs (1943), the Laurel pants were also used in Jitterbugs and the Laurel jacket was worn at the start of Great Guns (1941).

"Stan's house" sold

In the Northern Echo on 9th June was almost a full page on the sale of "Stan Laurel's house" in Bishop Auckland, although it was actually his parents' house.

Property investor Phil Carrick bought the house for an undisclosed sum after it failed to sell at auction. Phil, originally from Forest Hall, Tyneside, and now of Down Patrick, Northern Ireland, initially intended to refurbish it and sell it but now intends to keep it as a rental property because of its connections to Stan. The house needs extensive cosmetic work to the interior and some building work. Mr Carrick intends to keep many of the original fittings.

The newspaper piece was accompanied by a large photo (above) of Mr Carrick outside the house, a close-up of the plaque and a photo of Stan.

Catchers in the USA press

Dwain Smith sent us a page from Daily News (05.06.11.). It featured the Boys as rat-catchers.

Charity run

I will be running the City of Manchester 10K run in Sunday 3rd July 2011 and will be raising funds for CANCER RESEARCH UK. I hope to raise as much money as possible and I hope various friends/colleagues/acquaintances,etc. will support me via sponsorship.

A very large percentage of the population are in some way affected by cancer,as was the case with me. Sadly, both my parents passed away through cancer-related conditions two years ago, within weeks of each other.I do, however, intend honoring their memory in taking part in major events like the City of Manchester 10K. The work that medical researchers and professionals do to study, improve, extend and enhance the quality of life for individuals and their families affected by cancer is worthy of the highest praise and support. I hope you may be able to sponsor me; the link to my web sponsorship page is below; if you would like to sponsor me, just click on the Web Address and nominate the amount you would like to pledge.

Stan at the Fringe

I've just got the Edinburgh Fringe brochure and One Night Stan, written and performed by Miles Gallant, is at Assembly George Square from 3rd till 29th August at 15:45 for one hour.

I saw this a few years ago at the Fringe and enjoyed it but not as much as Tom McGrath's play.

Fine site

Gene Sorkin points out a relatively new website which features screen capture shots of title cards of all the Laurel and Hardy movies and more. It provides still shots from their movies, shots of co-stars and many other interesting tidbits. The site is still undergoing construction, but it already contains a treasure-trove of fun.
