Saps are twenty years young

Roger Robinson reports

The Saps At Sea chalked up their twentieth Anniversary in October. It resulted in a record number of 80 attendees at the Naval and Military Club. Special surprise guests were Louisde Murchison from Welwyn Garden City, Hans and Anita Van Teheijden from the Netherlands and Marion Grave from Ulverston.

After ten years on the throne, 'Mad' Paul Allen handed over his Grand Sheikdom to founder member Ray Dempsey. Rogerrrrr  - remember him? - presented Paul with an engraved trophy to celebrate his decade of mad fun. Ray announced that Emma 'Thelma' Perry was the new Vice Sheik. If she is in charge of vice, then I think that I may be bad from now on!

Excellent entertainment was provided by Lucky Dog Theatre with a focus of original material about 'Mad' Paul Allen. Philip and Tony were in great form and we are grateful for their input and friendship. Ray and Rita had arranged a sumptuous Birthday cake and with a free buffet. Our tummies also benefited from this memorable evening.

I have to thank all our regular Saps for their continued support. The Essex Boys and Girls are alive, well, kicking, laughing and wanting more and more Laurel and Hardy. Me too!!!!
